COVID 19 Information The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been exposed to COVID 19 or diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition on the COVID 19 Notification Form (available via a link on the Student Code of Conduct COVID19 webpage). Course Information
Description This course provides a historical and philosophical overview of the American criminal justice system, including the nature, extent, and impact of crime; criminal law; and justice agencies and processes.

1. Describe the History and Philosophy of the American Criminal Justice System (PSLO 1, 2, 5 Alpha)

2. Explain the nature and extent of Crime in America. (PSLO 1, 2, 5)

3. Analyze the impact and consequences of crime. (PSLO 3, 2)

4. Evaluate the development, concepts, and functions of law in the criminal justice system. (PSLO 1, 2, 5)

5. Describe the structure of contemporary federal, state, and local justice agencies and processes. (PSLO 3, 2)

Attendance Policy Regular prompt attendance is required. Excessive absences will result in reduced grades and/ or failure. Since this is an online class, students are required to log in at least once per week. There may be discussions and/or assignments posted in the class each week, so weekly attendance to the online class is essential.
Academic Honesty Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
